You've probably read 10 million reviews on this mascara, and truth be told this review was supposed to go up months ago, but bare with me! I've read nothing but positive comments on this mascara, and yet I manage to find more negatives than positives. I first bought the miniature size back in February in the middle of the hype phase. It just didn't do what I wanted it to do and so being influenced by so many positive reviews, I bought another when they did a magazine offer in the hopes that the first one was a dud. I wish I'd have waited for the magazine offer the first time round as I've wasted double the amount of money I usually spend on my regular mascara.
Now I don't know whether I've just got the most un-cooperative eyelashes ever, or if this mascara really isn't worth the hype. I'll agree that it is one of the blackest mascaras I've tried and the brush is quite good for separating lashes. Other than that I hate it! The brush is also very rubber-ised and harsh on sensitive eyes, I cringed every time I went to apply it! I hate the 'ball' on the end of the brush as it unevenly deposits the mascara on the lower lashes. I find the formula quite flaky at times and it requires a lot of layering to achieve any kind of 'dramatic' look. Flaky + layers = an absolute nightmare, as many beauty bloggers will know.
In terms of achieving a 'false lash effect' I'd say no way! Is it worth £18.50? - no! I'll definitely be sticking to my all time fave, Maybelline Falsies from now on!
What were your thoughts on this 'hyped' mascara?
I thought it was terrible, and I paid full price for the full size product ($23). Ugh. Never falling for hype again...
ReplyDeleteIts so strange that it doesnt work for you, its such a lovely mascara, did you only ever purchase the smaller size as maybe that could be something to do with it, as i brought the large one originally and then got the one that came with the magazine and my small one just isnt as good as my large one, strange but maybe its worth a try :)

I'm so glad it's not just me! I don't get on with this at all either, I keep trying it but I just don't love it. And the spiky ball thing is evil.

I wasn't a fan of this mascara either! I liked the brush but I found the actual mascara was really "wet" and smudged everywhere until it was properly dry and then I found it really flaky once dry too! I currently use the Revlon Grow Luscious mascara and that's amazing for length! :)

That is really cool to see someone not just following the hype and giving a honest review! I was going to buy this but think I might just stick to the one I'm using now

I've never tried this mascara, I definitely don't want to now.
ReplyDeleteI got the Bad Gal mascara in a magazine once and that was awful, which I'm glad I didn't pay more than the price of the magazine for it. It was so dry that it I had to keep putting more and more layers on my lashes to get some make up actually on them. >.<
Definitely think I will be avoiding Benefit's mascara's in future. >.<

Thank god someone else agrees with me! I hate this stuff! It flakes off in my eyes like I don't know what!!

I, too, think this mascara isn't worth the hype. My lashes are pretty stubborn and won't hold curls. And with this mascara, I find it not helpful in helping me that at all. I'd stick to my Maybelline Falsies waterproof.
ReplyDeleteI felt the EXACT same way when I tried a mini! But then I won a full size and loved it! I don't think the minis are of the same quality as the normal which is a shame but don't completely rule it out! It's now my favourite mascara! X
ReplyDeleteI felt the same, I wrote a blog post on how I didn't get on well with it too. It definitely is not worth the hype! I am glad I'm not the only one who thinks so! xo

Oh no...This is such a shame!
ReplyDeleteI haven't personally bought it but I have tried it at the benefit counter and it looked great! Granted I didn't apply it myself so I'm no sure what the application was like.
Maybe the mini size made a difference?

totally agree with you!! I've been wondering for so long why it gets such great reviews because I've used so many other cheaper mascaras that work way better than that.. very odd!

Aw that was disappointing. Should've done more for the price:/ x
ReplyDeleteI agree. I don't find it worth it either, and that ball at the tip of the brush is so annoying. Great review overall, though! Thanks for sharing xo
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger award! I hope you can check it out :)

I love this mascara and used about 3 tubes now, I like that you've posted an honest review though, it's good to read others opinion. I have sensitive eyes and can never wear mascara at all on my bottom lashes, I just don't bother, but this worked for me on the top.
ReplyDeleteGreat honest post xx
I hate it with a passion although I love the wand and I've actually kept it to use with other mascaras. The product itself however is, in my opinion, shocking. x
ReplyDeleteMy only gripe with this product is that when you first but it it's so gloppy that you kind of WANT it to dry out a little.. But the formula is made to not dry out as fast as others so you can't win ha xx
